2019 NHL Stadium Series

The Flyers and the Penguins prepare to face-off as sports betting heats up

NHL fans are watching closely as things heat up for the 2019 NHL Stadium Series when the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at home on Saturday, February 23, 2019. The series will be played at the Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.

The outdoor game is likely to draw a record crowd as the two teams battle it out for the title. In 2017 the Penguins beat the Flyers 4-2 when they faced-off at Heinz Field to a crowd of 67,000 fans. The repeat match-up in 2019 is expected to garner even more interest. Both teams are accustomed to playing in the outdoor environment which adds a chilly excitement to the competition. This will be the Flyers fourth regular-season game outside in the elements and the fifth outdoor game for the Penguins.

What does the match-up mean for sports betting? A lot! This is one of the fiercest rivalries in the NHL with some of the top talents in the league. The Flyers’ captain Claude Giroux is a consistent scorer and a finalist for the Hart Trophy. Other top Philadelphia teammates to watch are 2017 NHL All-Star MVP Wayne Simmonds and NHL All-Star Shayne Gostisbehere.

The Penguins’ side of the puck has several forces on the ice. The Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is a two-time winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Hart Trophy. Teammates Evgeni Malkin has earned the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Hart Trophy and Kris Letang are a three-time NHL All-Star.

The cross-state rivals have met 281 times in regular season games since they both joined the NHL in the 1967-68 season. The teams have battled it out in the Stanley Cup Playoff six times with the Flyers taking home victories in four of those championships.
